Yes, yes he does. But he really needs to speed up the writing process , I think he is doing too many book signings and short stories. Give us the goods, Martin!!

Trask etc. Ah,where to begin. i think it is GRRM along with. Steven Erikson that got me back into reading Fantasy , after a few years of other genre fiction. I was gripped from the first chapter of "Game Of Thrones"...and have even forgiven the old goat for the wait for "Feast Of Crows". His 700 page retrospective is published later this year, including the "Hedge Knight" novella ( recently turned into a comic ). From his website "HALF A MILLION WORDS OF GRRM These days, I am best known for the epic fantasy novels of A Song of Ice and Fire, but my longtime readers will know that wrote a lot of other things before that. Decades worth of other things. The novels Fevre Dream, Dying of the Light, and The Armageddon Rag, for three. Several feature screenplays, and a bushel of scripts for The Twilight Zone, Beauty and the Beast, and other shows. My Haviland Tuf stories, and my work for Wild Cards. And lots and lots and lots of short stories, novelettes, and novellas". I Cannot wait.

Has anyone read all of the RRetrospective yet? I'm slowly making my way through it, but I think I may be crushed under it's weight before I can finish it!

There is no doubt that Martin is one of the best writers in fantasy at the moment. He really does make you feel for his characters, and there is no black and white, just shades of grey. He can even make us feel sympathy for Jamie Lannister! ASoS was the best so far, with major plot developments and some big shocks. To avoid spoilers let me just refer to it as the R** W******* scene. If you've read it you know what I mean. My jaw dropped when I read it.
There are not many other writers for whom I would be so tolerant of such a long delay between books. I just hope AFFC is worth the wait.

I think he's an amazing writer, but he does write a lot slower than most other authors. I think Erikson is a better writer, but he also manages to write a lot faster (1 main book a year, sometimes a novella as well).

Yeah, he's really left us hanging at the moment. I think I'll need to re-read the series just to remember what has gone before - if/when his next book comes out.
