In the rest of the bas-lag novels, what would you like to see more of? I would like to see more of the Brucaloc (especially the events around him arriving at Aramada) and obviosuly more of Doul. Some more info on High Cromlech, and thta Ghosthead Empire would also be cool.

Personally, more New Crobuzon would be pure bliss for me. The political and social situation in the city was intriguing in PSS. Especially the parts about artificial intelligence left me wanting more. On the other hand, I agree with Doul about the characters. New Crobuzon was left quite barren in the end of PSS. So, New Crobuzon with the Scar characters.

I'd agree.
I think China has only scratched the surface in describing the machinations of NewCrobuzon. Its oligarchal political system , unorthodox economy and racial mix etc.
This is why, i'm so looking forward to the Iron Council.

In the rest of the bas-lag novels, what would you like to see more of? Two Words: Fractured Lands. Looking forward to 'Iron Council.' I wonder, if reading PSS and Scar and all the stuff we're here talking about, if this is what it felt like to be in 1956, when everybody was talking about that new dude, Tolkein...

Definitely more of the High Cromlech and Ghosthead Nebula though I guess more of New Crobuzon also will be nice.

That's a simple question for me, I want some GENGRIS! Ever since I read those few sniplets about it in the Scar I hoped there would one day be a whole separate book about it. It just seems so utterly strange and alien and potential for an awesome story.
High Cromlech is another one. And Doul.

I think all the above replies have their merits bu ti would love to read about the Malarial Queendom and the wars that led to the anophelli being exiled to the island. How did New Crobuzon react? Was it even affected? I'm guessing the Cactae were instrumental in the war so perhaps much of the book would be based in Dreer Samher (or whatever it's called). That said I mot sure how China would feel about writing an 'anti-prequel' (he refers to PSS, The Scar and IC as an anti trilogy)

For me it would be the Stain. The man almost teased as he described only the edges, leaving only fleeting glimpses of the schitzophrenic interior. I interprete the very idea of the stain to be a strong metaphor for the Bas-Lag whole; an origami-world, folded and re-folded until the impossible becomes ineveitable. Please return to the Cacotopus!!

Agreed re. High Cromlech and the Ghosthead. Perhaps Tesh, but in a way finding out a little more might detract from the mystique.. Its a mark of Mieville's writing imo that he tells enough about some things to inspire your imagination, but leaves enough unsaid (at least until further books) to keep you wondering. Every new work brings tantelising hints and glimpses of other words, even if they are not directly relevant to the main narrative, and I guess as has been said before it is a testament to the complexity and completeness of the universe he has created.
