Several of the people in my book group that bailed on reading "The Scar", and didn't rate it, expressed a strong dislike of Mieville's writing. One said if was way too much work, another said that it was utterly unreadable. A couple of the people that gave The Scar mediocre ratings, probably won't pick up another of Mieville's books on their own, but were stubborn enough to finish the book to discuss it with the group. My group also read Perdido Street Station. Or I should say we made it a reading selection for discussion; few people actually read it. members.aol.com/tirfell/mieville.htmA Mieville work that went over well with the my book club was The Tain. Maybe most find Mieville more readable (and tolerable) at shorter length? We read the novella The Tain in the anthology Cities. members.aol.com/tirfell/cities.htmAaron from my book club wrote a lengthy, highly favorable review of The Tain www.fantasticreviews.com/tain_mieville.htm
