Would anyone be interested in helping me make a Mieville fansite (i'm terrible at making sites)? We could use it as the homepage for this forum. We could have info on all the characters and events and places, and... *continues to daydream*
uh, yeah, so, anyone interested?

I dunno how good I am at making websites (translation: I suck) but i'd certainly be more than willing to help you write info and that sort of things.

I'd be willing give you some help with the web pages. Just let me know what you'd like me to do. I've managed a few fairly large sites, so I'm probably prepared for whatever you're looking to do.

Given I claim to run a web design company, I'd probably better put up my hand...
*timidly raises hand*
I have very nearly zero free time though, and all of that is currently spent trying to finish my personal site and in this forum and malazan.com.
Regardless, I'm in. How do you want to play it?

i have no idea in the slightest. I suppose we first need to find some webspace. Anyone suggest a suitable host? Preferably free?

I just checked out that site. They have a variety of types of accounts that you have to pay a one-time setup fee for. If we want scripted pages and database access, that pushes us up to the highest category... but also gives the best data transfer per month rate and domain name hosting.
I'm going to check with the people who host my site to see if they would be willing to help out.

Just remembered something: a forum member here called Loosecannon once offered us his site over at www.myserver.org/ to host the forum. We could always ask him if we could host the fansite there, or maybe the fansite and the forum, as he has php and i hate proboards.

I'll help. Not really with production, but anything you want me to do, I'll try. I was the one that designed my own website, and I'll gladly help out with artistic design, or anything that doesn't have to rely on fast internet connection (Damn my cattle farm home). Of course, if you do take my own website as a sample, you have to know that... I don't maintain it very well (Damn my cattle farm home).

Funny, I was going to ask you if you spoke to the person you mentioned before...
I had a small list recommended to me by some friends and I've been looking at what they have to offer. None of them are free, but some are fairly cheap. I've asked for further information.

Hey guys, I sent an e-mail to Doul detailing my server so he can forward that to anyone else interested. Basically I run a Linux box off my desktop computer and use a dynamic DNS service to bind a domain name to my IP address. While this isn't the most stable of servers and maybe the speed might not be the best, I can offer you guys whatever you need (e-mail, chatrooms, PHP, CGI, perl, etc). I don't have a lot of free time at the moment but I will gladly set-up the server and everything you guys want. Anyway, it might be a temporary solution until a time comes when you want to register a domain name and migrate it to a stable server in the UK or whatever. Also, that myserver.org address is not mine
