He's been around for years and so has my favourite of his brilliant novels: Hothouse. For those not yet acquainted, this is one of the most awe-inspiring splurges of a persons imagination I have ever read. Throwing dirt in the face of the popular notion of a technological wonderland future, he writes about the possibility of a reverse in human evolution, leaving the inheritance of our world to other things. His use of words to describe creatures and scenarios is amazing. It imprints a vivid picture from the first paragraph and from there on only becomes stranger to the point of being akin to a really fucking bad dream. Who needs chemical fulfilment?
